DC Comics, Hot Marvel Heroes, The Green Lantern

Well I love to read comics.  What did you expect?  I only read biographies, philosophies, mystery novels and Coehlo?  Come on people, I am much more regular than that.
I must have told you I grew up with boys, or have you forgotten? Well if I didn't say it yet on this Blog, I remember having said it here. Understanding Men
So I pretty much inherited some wealth in terms of mint condition collectibles from the boys.  That would likely explain why I would not have movie adaptations of the likes of the Justice League heroes and the X-Men pass without my little "critique" on casting or story lines.  I will try to forget about Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for a while, because I am too partial to hold any critique on that one. (sigh ...)
Hugh Jackman
Well each time I hear a DC or Marvel comic hero being cast, my ears twitch and I have my own bets as who is best to do this and that role. Tobey Maguire for instance as "Spiderman" was probably in my, uhmm .. Top 30 40.  Arguably though, he did enough pull in the "ka-ching" area, box office-wise, otherwise, somebody explain the number of sequels to me!  And I would not even dare argue this on the basis of box office sales, internationally.
But with that being said,  I reckon there has been a couple of unsuccessful casting of actors that would play certain heroes and heroines that still leave me squirming in my seat.
Why do I think to this day that after Christopher Reeve, every other actor who played Superman was "lame"?  Look, they did better in choosing Superman's arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor. For instance, Kevin Spacey absolutely rocked that role! I am not sure if you still remember but the 2006 "Superman Returns" had Brandon Routh play the lead role.  Don't give me that open jaw look and ask, Brandon who?  Yeah.  That one. Quite a looker actually.  End of story. I am now inclined to believe there is some truth that Superman and being cast in the movie, is one of Hollywood's urban myth/curse that holds a little tinge of empirical proof.
Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man - I found that priceless.  Even Mickey Rourke as nemesis, ooh lala, that just completely fills up the screen with splattered testosterone!  But Downey has always been one of my  favourites, even back in the days of pre-cocaine, during and every rehab episode and post-rehab.  So I am pretty biased on him too and his talent.
Quite noticeably, well at least in the last decade or so, on top of the incremental fascination of directors and producers, (who I suspect are Gen X-ers that now have disposable income to live out their childhood fantasies), there is a marked obsession on making more comic hero and story adaptations.  And as if we have not had enough of this heresy, comes in The Green Lantern.
There were talks this lead role would have been given to Bradley Cooper (yep, the hot dude in Hangover 1 and 2 albeit I remember him more as the bastard in the movie, "He's Not That Into You") or even Jared Leto, the American musician turned actor who has made a definite impression on me playing character roles in "The Fight Club", "Alexander" and "American Psycho."
My bet, Ryan Reynolds, although I was quietly wishing they would cast Will Smith, landed the role and I personally feel no disappointment.
I generally watch movies for the entertainment value and recreation.  Whilst I do occasionally (fine so I do frequently) enjoy being terrified, or being mind twisted, I like to watch comic adaptations to check out on how advance the CGI has progressed in terms of visual impact and editing; and how good the choice of cast has been decided.  I reckon Reynolds fit that bill as the "Green Lantern" with enough hotness, bravado and "funnies" rolled in a package.  After all, it is the only movie I have seen where the rest of the characters did not buy into that stupid hero "mask" as adequate to conceal one's identity.
I still find it to this date absolutely ridiculous and rather insulting, that Superman will fall for a woman like Lois Lane, who is such an idiot to begin with,  to be unable to tell Clark Kent from Superman.  After all, he just takes off his glasses when he dons his tights.  But duhh ...
Check out the Green Lantern.  It definitely promises a sequel.

LADY GAGA - WTF?

18 February 2011

Let me begin this by saying I am a proud member of the Generation X.  I do not hold any apologies if I was born in a household where we have this huge console made of wood, (note: as in "real" wood)  called the television set.  Yes, it was black and white.  My Dad shortly thereafter bought a colored one due to my prodding and because I was always in the neighbor's house, watching TV shows in black and white on their "colored" TV.

The PC was not yet in every desk top, ergo, Mr. Bill Gates has not fulfilled his vision.

John Travolta was still a dancing heartthrob and not your character actor facing-off with Nicolas Cage.

Back then, the term FACEBOOK was a non-word.  A book face is considered the front cover artwork of a book.
If you wrote down or actually said:  BRB, TTYL or TMI;  people will ask you if these are new company acronyms or something is terribly wrong with you; and it is likely a toss up between dyslexia or a written expression disorder.

But as a proud member of the Gen X era, I can play Resident Evil 5 without squirming; I can Blog, I use technology to enable and aid me in my communications and in my work (albeit I will not allow myself to be trapped by it), I understand the Game Mechanics of DotA;  I am a real mean Pokemon Player and have graduated to the Maximum Level by using only ASH as my player and if I don't need to give you a voice call, I can easily switch to SMS.

However, despite my flexibility and adaptability to the trends of 21st century pop culture, including Gen Y's fixation on emo-goth expressionism, gayliners, metrosexuality, retro-fashion, remakes,  even the nauseating Beavis & Butthead MTV humor, I  do have certain limits of tolerance.

This one here is just sheer abomination.

I am totally not getting it.  As a matter of fact, I don't give a hoot if I'm the only one not getting it.
What really gets my beef are media morons who label this display of insanity as cutting edge creativity!  Oh give me a freaking break!  She attends a Morning News show dressed as a condom, with matching horns,  to promote safe sex.  What the hell?

Fine, so they say Lady Gaga's unprecedented entrance was a milestone at the 53rd Grammy's. She was carried into the theater in an egg because she was incubating.
Do succubus incubate?
And she romps around to the tune of her latest single (gawd, now it's Number 1 in the charts! wtf?) "Born This Way".  Hell yeah, she was born sick if you ask me.

Now wait a second, that sounds like a Madonna arrangement.  Listen ... even the Prologue of "Express Yourself" sounds the same.  Hah!  Talk about cutting edge creativity?  Even my simple auditory skills can discern the similarity.  Gaga is a copycat.  I don't care if her claim to fame is to be reborn as the Goddess of Springtime in the NWO.  Who gives a crap?  A copycat is still NOT an original however unintentional.  Damn if I care.  Still a rip-off.

I seriously, seriously miss "talent".  Talent as in musical geniuses.  I am lucky to have caught a glimpse of musical talents of past decades that actually wrote poetry, added musical notes and arrangements and sang it without having to resort to outlandish gimmickry bordering on the occult just to get some attention.

I miss music and musicality.  Music that cuts through generations.  My grandparents listened to it.  My parents loved it.  I swooned when I heard it, and sadly,  some of these pieces have been re-mixed with complete disrespect and downloaded into iPods to blare into eardrums ruining the harmony of the instruments.  Shame!

I miss the true icons.  No false claims.  No cosmetic boosters. Just plain leadership in their fields that stood above the din.  They are either dead, killed or has-beens because they don't make good marketing these days..

At least, I have the luxury of knowing what I miss. I am indebted to digital technology as this enabled me to listen and savor true and real music,  made by the creative musical geniuses of the 20th century; instead of feeding on this viral disease that plagues and damages the 21st century music industry populated by muddled and afflicted personalities.

What’s With …

Sarah Geronimo vs. Miley Cyrus?  Face – Off.

WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR:
DISCLAIMER:  This is not a HATE Blog.  Its content is for the open minded and strong of heart.  If you get too emotional attached, this is mainly the Bloggers Opinion.  So get a life.

Sarah Geronimo, a 22 year old singer, actress, host, painful dancer and a more painful commercial model who rose to star level popularity by singing and winning in a local show competition.  Now, you see her on Philippine television 24/7 endorsing a product here and there, shaking her black Rapunzel hair or warbling in some noontime show.  But let’s face it, sure she can get consumers to buy her endorsements, but can somebody please work on her total image?  Something does not click.  Something is wrong somewhere.  Something … it is odd but every inch of my gut tells me there is a stark disconnect with the product features and the product image, if you will look closely along the lines that says:  Consumer Watch.  Do you see Sarah as a potential ultimate Diva, say 5 years down the road?  A Diva?  Hello?  You can walk like a duck, waddle like a duck, quack like a duck, but you are still a pigeon.  Look she may be the sweetest girl in the world, but you are missing the point here.

11,745 kilometers or 7298 miles or 6342 nautical miles away is another famous, infamous, depends on how you want to place it, popular icon, the young Hannah Montana or the totally abused Miley Cyrus.  Disney Channel uncovered a gold mine when they launched her in the cult series.  Just 18 years old and she has successfully achieved an image even her father Billy Ray, could possibly, (I said possibly) cringe about if not for the millions she is raking in for her CDs and hit songs.  But look closely, when she was Hannah Montana I just have to agree she was totally cute.  But to behave and act like Hannah Montana with a “bong” in your mouth or to be subject of a million tweets because of scandalous acts, no wonder some people actually believe Britney Spears is a total sweetheart!  Who knows what lies beneath the heart of a young lady brought up in Hollywood style?  And to quote from the immortal Lindsay Lohan herself: “ I hate it when people call me a teen queen.”

What do we have?  Between a pretentious local wannabe who dreams of becoming the next Lady Gaga, and an all-out there untamed California girl who would threaten the queen-ness of Britney and Lindsay in terms of Disturbed Factor, the options for teen icons are getting from a bad case scenario to a worst case scenario.  However, the truth is - They sell.  These girls sell because their followers buy them.  You could be a fan for all I care.  But is this the best both worlds can give?  This is it?  I don’t know about you but since I have been under Risperidone and Olanzapine alternately, I have seen the light!
